ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — Taxpayers are on the hook for up to a quarter million dollars to pay for the NYS Assembly impeachment investigation of Governor Andrew Cuomo.
We've obtained the contract between the Assembly and law firm Davis, Polk & Wardwell.
The Assembly is paying attorneys at Davis Polk $600 an hour. Paralegals are being paid $250 an hour.

The total cost of services for the length of the one-year contract is not to exceed $250,000.
That includes travel expenses of up to $5,000.
All this, an expenditure that is frustrating to Assemblywoman Pay Fahy.
“I think that this is not the way that anybody wants to spend taxpayer dollars," Fahy said. "However we have very serious allegations that have come forward, they deserve to be investigated. We scramble for $10,000 to help with some food banks and schools and books - think of how far that goes. So absolutely not anybody's preference.”

The contract states that Davis Polk will "assist the Judiciary Committee in conducting an investigation into the allegations against Governor Andrew Cuomo that may be the basis of articles of impeachment...and assist in any proceedings in the Assembly or other body..."
The contract with Davis Polk runs through March of next year.
